Step 4: How to create private sub-groups in the app

One of the most powerful features of Bible Engagement Project is the option to create private sub-groups. Why is it so important?

When you create a private sub-group, you make a private community where group members can share personal thoughts, ask difficult questions, and make prayer requests—without broadcasting it to the entire church.

Step 1

Sign in to Faithlife.com

Faithlife is an online community built specially for churches. Bible Engagement Project uses Faithlife to manage your digital small groups.

Visit Faithlife.com in your web browser. Make sure to sign in using the same email and password you used when purchasing your subscription.

Step 2

Find your church group

Once you are logged in, scroll down to the section called Groups on the left hand side of the screen.

When you subscribed, you automatically created a group. Click the group name to open it.

Step 3

Create a small group

Scroll down your church group page to find another section called “Groups”. This section will contain all the digital small groups you create for your church.

Click on the “+” button to create a new small group.

The next few pages will walk you through setting up the details of your small group. Don’t worry too much about these details right now—you or your small group leader can change them later.

When you are finished setting up your small group, you’ll be taken to the new small group page!

Step 4

Invite small group leaders

Now that we’ve created a small group, let’s go find it in the Bible Engagement Project app. Open the app and tap on the Community tab in the bottom navigation.

In the Community tab, tap on the item labeled GROUP near the top of the screen. This will open a menu of all the groups you have created or belong to. Tap on the small group you just created to open it.

In the Community tab, tap on the item labeled GROUP near the top of the screen. This will open a menu of all the groups you have created or belong to. Tap on the small group you just created to open it.

Now that you have your small group open, let’s invite a small group leader. Tap the Add User button at the top of the screen.

The final step is to choose the “access level” you want to assign to the person you’re inviting to the app. To do this, tap “Invite As” near the top. There are 3 different access levels to choose from—Members, Moderators, and Admins.

  • Members can access the curriculum but don’t have permissions to invite others.
  • Moderators and Admins can both invite people to the app, but only Admins have access to certain account settings.

Since you’re inviting the leaders of your sub-groups, we recommend setting them up as Moderators so they can invite other people to the group.

There are several ways to invite people, so choose the option that’s most convenient for you.

Step 5

Create more small groups

Congrats! Your small group leader is ready to start inviting people to use the Bible Engagement Project app.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each small group you want to make.

We recommend creating a small group for each Bible study you have. If you have any youth groups, create a small group for each of them. Consider creating small groups for volunteer groups as well, so they can talk and share information using the Bible Engagement Project app.

Next Steps

Congrats! Now that you’ve set up your private sub-groups, you can have your small group leaders begin inviting the members of their groups to the app.
