As the nation of Israel continued to deteriorate, the prophet Elijah comes to his lowest low. He felt all alone in his endeavor to turn the hearts of the Israelites back to their God. In this moment, God encouraged him by revealing that Elisha will become his successor and helper for the rest of his earthly life. At the end of Elijah’s life, he blessed Elisha with a double portion of his spirit. Elisha continued in the prophetic ways of Elijah—attempting to call Israel back to God and performing miracles wherever he went.
