In this session, we’ll look at the calling of the disciple, Matthew. He was a tax collector and wasn’t liked by many people. The fact that Jesus would call him says a great deal about Jesus. He doesn’t appear to look at one’s past as much as one’s potential. Matthew was sitting at his booth when Jesus called him to follow. As many of the disciples did, Matthew immediately left his current situation to follow Jesus. As Jesus calls us, we must choose to leave our past, not just our job or dreams, but our past mistakes and reputation, too.
