How to Create Discipleship Moments for Children During a Pandemic || Bible Engagement Project

In the second Bible Engagement Project video interview, Arizona Ministry Network leaders and authors Leigh and Jodi Metcalf share from their recent book on parenting on how parents can create discipleship moments while sheltering in place with their families.
Creating moments is a pattern found in Scripture as early as Deuteronomy 6, where the Lord instructs his people to keep His commandments on their hearts and the hearts of their children: “Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:7, NIV). Jesus also created moments for His disciples, teaching them spiritual truths in many ways, including taking them out on a boat, cooking with them, and walking along a beach.
Highlights:
1-Get outside: What spiritual truths come to bear in unique ways when you’re outdoors? Can you take your kids out on a lake and share the story of Jesus calming the waters?
2-Buy a devotional and bring the family together around it regularly: Rather than just on Sundays, make it habit each day to engage the whole family daily in understanding the word of God.
3-Apply Scripture in day-to-day activities: How can everyday moments be transformed into spiritual touchpoint where the devotional thought from the day before is lived out?
4-Be intentional: Increased awareness of spiritually-rich moments won’t happen automatically. Choose to seek out ways that Scripture comes to life during this extended time at home — and it will transform your lives once the shelter in place orders have lifted.
