In this session, we’ll look at a time Jesus cleared certain people out of the temple. Many Bible stories are about Jesus’ gentleness, but this story shows He wasn’t always like that. Jesus was upset with people who had transformed a portion of the temple meant to incorporate worship from all nations into a place for personal profit and animal storage and sale. Jesus’ response was to immediately get the merchants out and restore that sacred space to what God intended. That idea dovetails perfectly with what He wants to do in our life at times. God has purposes and intentions for our life, but sin fills and pollutes that space. We need God’s help to first recognize that sin and live holy. Then, like Jesus’ radical action, we must radically remove things from our life that displease God.
